We were the loneliest sail boat adrift
Followed by only the wind and sea shift
We were the last boat to grasp sun
Warmed but cool sharing with no one
Silent as gulls had long since passed
Still as sail hung from worn mast
Won't you please swim to join us here
We will reach into blue raising you dear
Up aboard our solemn deck to rest
Thanking you for your diligent test
Now we could be two to share this light
Beholding all that the sea offers us in sight...

VIVA VIDAL!

We love this man here at the Chic Shack!
After reading his two part autobiography
and drifting through his vast literary output,
bumping in to his various film cameos, and here in an
interesting online doc,
we decided the world needs to pay more
attention to this holy scholar and wise sage!
Please educate yourself on his majesty!

SUCH GALL MR. MALLE!

Louis Malle was but 25 when he rocked the world with
his intimate portrait of one night of passion capturing
in his words "the honesty of a man and
woman together at night".
Most films in 1958 would barely even show a couple
embrace let alone entangled in adulterous erotic bliss.
The film was brought before the U.S. Supreme Court on
obscenity charges and a theater fined $2500 for showing it!
A haunting tale of discovery and spontaneity, Les Amants
brought international acclaim to leading actress
Jeanne Moreau whose portrayal as a woman bored with
not only her husband but her affair with a dashing
polo player. The Lovers is a must see friends!

AND LA LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU...

Springtime is as good of a time as any
to bust out some proper Liverpool lads tunes
from cult faves The La's!
Most famous for this song,
and completely absent for years until recent reunions
have brought back the dynamic, shall we say 'Power duo'
of John Power and Lee Mavers!
A sad story with a happy ending?

ANOUK FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU...

Happy Birthday to one of the more glamorous
and talented screen legends and not such a bad
looker either, Anouk Aimée!

ALWAYS BET ON BLACK!

When you need that special spark,
to light up the silver screen in the dark,
make sure the time your sharing
includes a little bit of this Karen!

RETURN TO GLORY?

The Snake that Dances

I love to watch, while you are lazing,
Your skin. It iridesces
Like silk or satin, smoothly-glazing
The light that it caresses.

Under your tresses dark and deep
Where acrid perfumes drown,
A fragrant sea whose breakers sweep
In mazes blue or brown,

My soul, a ship, to the attraction
Of breezes that bedizen
Its swelling canvas, clears for action
And seeks a far horizon.

Your eyes where nothing can be seen
Either of sweet or bitter
But gold and iron mix their sheen,
Seem frosty gems that glitter.

To see you rhythmically advancing
Seems to my fancy fond
As if it were a serpent dancing
Waved by the charmer's wand.

Under the languorous moods that weigh it,
Your childish head bows down:
Like a young elephant's you sway it
With motions soft as down.

Your body leans upon the hips
Like a fine ship that Iaves
Its hull from side to side, and dips
Its yards into the waves.

When, as by glaciers ground, the spate
Swells hissing from beneath,
The water of your mouth, elate,
Rises between your teeth —

It seems some old Bohemian vintage
Triumphant, fierce, and tart,
A liquid heaven that showers a mintage
Of stars across my heart.
